More details on dog seizure in Sac County

Sac City, Iowa -- The Sac County Sheriff’s Office released more information on the seizure of the dogs from a rural home on Wednesday last week.  The search warrant was executed 3975 Dean Avenue, near Kiron which is owned by Mary Brodersen.  The search warrant was issued because a deputy had been at the property on three separate occasions in the previous 10 days.  The deputy was unable to locate Brodersen on any of the previous visits and didn’t see any signs of humans having been on the property.  He could hear dogs barking in one of the small out buildings and took the initiative to check the building and observed conditions which appeared to be a danger to the dogs.  The dogs were confined to small cages stacked on top of each other and the dogs were covered in fecal matter.  The smell inside the building was extremely strong.  During the execution of the search warrant 84 adult dogs, three pups, one cat and the remains of five dead pups were seized.  All the animals were removed.  No charges have been filed at this time, pending further investigation and documentation of the physical condition of the animals.
