Broken rail blamed for Iowa train derailment
JEFFERSON, Iowa (AP) - Union Pacific says a broken rail caused
30 cars loaded with coal to derail near Jefferson in west central
Iowa.
Spokesman Mark Davis says Tuesday that the railroad doesn't know
why the rail was broken, and it will be tested to determine what
happened.
The 134-car coal train was heading from Wyoming to Illinois when
the derailment happened Sunday night. There were no injuries.
Davis says crews replaced 450 feet of damaged track on each
line, and both reopened Monday night.
