Kuemper to hold Town Hall Meeting


Kuemper has had several sub-committees meeting for several months that have been putting together ideas for the school.  Those goals will be discussed during a town hall meeting in the cafeteria next Tuesday night.  Kuemper President Vern Henkenius discusses the potential topics.

Lake City reviewing couple ordinances


Lake City will continue to gather more information on two ordinances before making a final decision on whether they will move forward or not.  The city council this week passed the first reading on revisions to their opening burning ordinance.  The council is looking at permits for opening burning and whether it’s feasible to have residents get a permit for each open burn. 

Maple River well projects bid approved


Breshnahan Well and Drilling of Battle Creek will begin drilling a well at the Maple River treatment facility.  Their bid of $6,350 was approved Monday by the board of supervisors.  The county received 4 bids including bids from Mid-American Drilling of Oakland, Iowa and Middendorff Well of Sioux Rapids.  Their bids were lower than Breshnahan but didn’t include the cost

Carroll Secondary roads get new vehicles


The Carroll County Secondary Roads Department will be adding two new vehicles this year after the board of supervisors approved the bids.  Supervisor Marty Danzer says what areas they were added for.

Lake City approves changes for contract and rates for meter reading


The city council in Lake City Monday night approved a new contract with Leon Hendricks that changes how Hendricks will be paid for checking meters.  Lake City paid Hendricks a monthly rate of $275 which breaks down to about 33 cents per meter.  Monday night he requested changing from the monthly rate to being paid by the meter read which is how he is paid in Carroll.  Hendricks

Deck fire in Carroll Sunday afternoon


The Carroll Fire Department responded a fire on a wooden deck at 704 Mockingbird Drive Sunday afternoon around 2:20.  The deck located on the back of the home, owned by Deb Young, may have started on fire after some trash ignited.  Carroll Fire Chief Greg Schreck visited the location again Monday morning and says it appears a cigarette may be the cause.  The fire spread from the

Jefferson man arrested on Burglary charges Sunday


42-year-old Randal Berelos of Jefferson was arrested Sunday morning at N Avenue and 160th Street by deputies with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and Greene County Sheriff Tom Heater.  He was arrested after he allegedly burglarized a residence in the 1300 block of 160th Street.  The sheriff’s office has been working on the investigation since late December when the

Exira Community School was denied over $131,000 of modified allowable growth for the school year 2011-2012.  The denial was announced last month during by the School Budget Review Committee (SBRC), which is a division of the Iowa Department of Education.  The SBRC denied the modified allowable growth as part of its corrective plan and has recommended to the department of education

Carroll to move forward with Blue Zone ideas


The City of Carroll will have to wait until the next go round to be selected as one of the state’s “Blue Zones” communities.  Mayor Adam Schweers discussed the issue Monday night.  He says all 11 of the communities had higher populations than Carroll which may have played a factor.  Schweers says Carroll can still become a “Blue Zone” community next

Enrollment down at Carroll DMACC Campus

Carroll approves increase in payments for Water Meter readings


The Carroll City Council approved an increase in the rates the city pays Leon Hendricks to read meters.  Hendricks requested a 4.5% increase in fees he charges for his monthly readings.  His current rate is 33.5 cents per meter with the increase to 35 cents.  City Manager Gerald Clausen informed the council that after the increase Hendricks would still be in the lower half of bids

House fire Sunday in Ralston


The Glidden and Ralston Fire Departments responded to a house fire at 202 1st Street in Glidden Sunday afternoon around 2:55. Churdan man arrested after hiding wrecked pickup


The Greene County Sheriff’s Office investigated a property damage crash in Churdan Saturday night around 7:58.  According to reports 41-year-old Terry Dillard of Churdan was turning westbound onto Wilkins Street off of Main Street in a 1999 Ford Ranger pickup.  He started to hit the gas and lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree.  Dillard then moved the vehicle from

Carroll getting less revunue due to State Court Changes

Manning Fire Department receives grant


The Manning Fire Department will receive the grant they had applied for through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.  Iowa Senator Tom Harkin announced today that Manning Fire and Rescue would be one of nine fire departments that were approved.  The over $264,000 grant will help them purchase a new pumper-tanker truck which is estimated to cost around $275,000.  Fire

Man arrested in stolen vehicle and forgery case


38-year-old Chad Wadsley of Fort Dodge was booked into the Greene County Jail Wednesday at noon after he was arrested on a warrant for 2 counts of forgery, 2nd degree theft and two counts of 5th degree theft.  The charges were filed following an investigation into a stolen vehicle and forged checks in Churdan back in May 2011.  Wadsley is currently being held in the Greene County

Bruner announces run for Iowa District Senate Seat

Carroll Rescue League taking care of dogs that were neglected


The Animal Rescue League in Carroll received 5 cocker spaniels and 1 doxen that is pregnant from according to director Stacey Vonnahme.  The 6 dogs were delivered by authorities following the raid Wednesday afternoon in Sac County.  Volunteers and staff will begin grooming the dogs tonight which could take a couple of days to complete.  Vonnahme told Carroll Broadcasting Thursday

Breda man dies from injuries sustained in a fall


Funeral services for 44-year-old Scott Koster of Breda are pending at the Sharp Funeral Home in Breda.  Koster died from injuries suffered in a fall Wednesday afternoon around 2:24.  According to official reports he was wiring some lights in a shop at 3991 Yankee Avenue in Sac County when he accidently stepped off the edge of the scaffolding he was working on.  Koster fell about 10

Dogs seized during Sac County raid


The Sac County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant Wednesday morning around 11:00 at a rural Southern Sac County farm.  During their search a building was found that contained cages of animals being kept in what is believed to be unsanitary conditions.  The animals mainly cocker spaniels were seized and with the assistance of the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, were removed

Dedham railroad crossing could be repaired this summer
